The Art of Planetary Science
University of Arizona’s fifth annual 2017 The Art of Planetary Science (TAPS) welcomed hundreds of submissions of art of all media from over a hundred artists and scientists. The grand opening celebrated the beauty of science and technology, transforming the Kuiper Space Science Building into a 3 tier Art Museum for the weekend. The displayed artwork came from local artists who were inspired by aerospace technology, science, and astronomy along with scientists who created artwork from their research. The Lunar and Planetarium Laboratory continue to push the boundaries by creating an opportunity for scientists to consider their research as art and artists to interpret the same theme in creating their artwork. Michelle Rouch illuminated the evening with a large reproduction of the Cool Astro Dudes that have original signatures of Mark and Scott Kelly, as well as Astro Geoff Notkin on Mars, and a unique portraits of Mark and Scott Kelly made in Conte', titled, "The Kelly Bros."
